Anyone come across a luthier-usable way to do this? My interest is in being able to use holly fret markers in a rosewood neck (the guitar being holly-bound).

Impregnating the holly inlay with some form of clear varnish would get round the obvious dirt problem entirely - anyone tried it or know how to?

You might check with Larry Davis over at Gallery Hardwoods. Larry has been doing acrylized wood for some time. I'm sure he could whip up a piece or two of holly for you.

No problem...I do it for knife handles and scales. Comes out looking a bit like aged ivory instead of snow white.
